Turn a research outline into a short video

Official Remotion agent Skills for building React-based video compositions, previewing them locally and exporting video when requested.

What can it do?

Provide a short script and local figures; the assistant helps build an editable video project and preview before export.

You provide

  • A local talk outline or script, approved figures or photos, captions and the intended audience.
  • Duration, aspect ratio, resolution, frame rate and any audio or subtitle requirements.

You receive

  • An editable React/TypeScript video project with a local Remotion Studio preview.
  • Video or still-image files after an explicit export request and render setup checks.

Documentation reviewed: 2026-10-20. Installation and the complete workflow have not been tested end to end by AimatraLab.

01

Prepare your project

Open your own project in Codex or Claude Code, with permission to read and write files and run commands. An ordinary web chat may not be able to install a Skill.

  • Codex or Claude Code with project file, command and browser access; ordinary web chat may not be able to install or preview it.
  • Node.js and Git, plus the Remotion project dependencies and a compatible browser for Studio and rendering; review downloads and environment changes first.
  • Check whether your organization and intended use qualify under the Remotion License. See https://www.remotion.dev/docs/license/pricing; do not assume every organization can use it free.

These requests run in your assistant's host environment. This page provides guidance; it does not run AI tasks or collect your project files.

02

Ask to install

Copy this request into your project conversation. Ask the assistant to review the original Skill and explain any required setup before using it.

Installation request

I am using Codex or Claude Code with project file and command access. Please first review the official Remotion monorepo at commit 051aeb2d5fd02a1870932195ac357a26e03d1c5d, packages/skills/README.md and the root LICENSE.md. Explain the Remotion License conditions for my organization and intended use; do not describe it as MIT or open source. Once the applicable terms are confirmed, install the complete packages/skills/skills collection and its referenced support files from this fixed snapshot into the current project's host-supported Skill directories. Preserve the original author credit and root licence, and do not overwrite existing Skills or project configuration. Do not copy only remotion-best-practices/SKILL.md: its router relies on the related Skills. Preserve the router's working symlinks to sibling Skill folders, or materialize those links as full local directories while keeping the router-relative paths intact. On Windows, a clone or ZIP may leave a link-text placeholder instead of a working directory; do not leave such placeholders in the installed Skill. Verify that each router-referenced local SKILL.md opens locally and contains the actual instructions, including ./remotion-create/SKILL.md, before claiming installation is complete. The documented command npx skills add remotion-dev/skills installs the current upstream by default and is not evidence that this snapshot was pinned. If you propose that installer instead, report any version or commit difference and wait for my confirmation; never claim a fixed installation without verifying it. List Node.js, Git, browser downloads and dependency or environment changes before making them. Do not enable paid services or cloud rendering. Report the installed paths, version, source commit and invocation, then wait for my files and task.

You can also select the request text above and copy it manually.

03

Try your first task

Once installation is confirmed, replace the example paths and details with your own files, then send this request in the same project.

First-use request

Use the installed Remotion Skills to make a 20-second research explainer from my local talk.md and figures/ files in a new output/remotion-explainer/ project. Preserve my original files and factual claims; flag missing information instead of inventing results. Use a 16:9 frame, readable labels and captions, and only my approved local assets. First show the editable composition in local Remotion Studio so I can review timing and text. Do not render or export until I explicitly ask, and do not use paid APIs, cloud rendering or unapproved asset downloads. Report the project path, dependency versions and checks performed.

04

Review the result

  • An editable React/TypeScript video project with a local Remotion Studio preview.
  • Video or still-image files after an explicit export request and render setup checks.

Ask your assistant where each output was saved and how it was checked. Compare the result with your original inputs before you use or share it.

Questions & limits

  • Source and documentation checked on 2026-10-20; installation, preview and complete rendering workflows have not been executed here.
  • This is source-available under the Remotion License, not a blanket free or open-source offer. The runtime's eligibility and any service costs must be checked separately against current official terms.
  • Images, audio, fonts and other dependencies have separate rights or terms. Video generation does not verify scientific facts or replace review of labels, timing and citations.
  • The official installer tracks current upstream by default; the source snapshot recorded here and an installed version can differ.
Can I upload files and run this here?

This guide does not provide online execution or file uploads. Work with the files in your own Codex or Claude Code project.

What if my assistant cannot install it?

Confirm that you are in a project conversation with file and command access. Ask the assistant to show the failed step and missing dependency, then use the pinned source below to check the instructions.

Which terms apply to this Skill and its dependencies?

The selected Skills are in the official monorepo under its Remotion License; their own metadata declares no separate licence. The runtime is free only under the official eligibility conditions, and other use requires a Company License. Check the current official terms and pricing before use.
