THIRD-PARTY OPEN SOURCE · Apache-2.0
Create an academic lecture poster
A third-party open-source skill by Anthropic, PBC. for creating static posters and visual designs as PNG or PDF, accompanied by a Markdown design philosophy.
What can it do?
Provide the content, page size, and visual direction; the local agent helps arrange a poster and deliver image or PDF files with its design rationale.
You provide
- The exact poster text, audience, page size or pixel dimensions, intended medium, and any preferred colors or visual references.
- Your original images, logos, and any required credit lines, along with permission to use them.
You receive
- A static poster or visual design as PNG and/or PDF, checked for readable text, margins, clipping, and overlap.
- A Markdown (.md) file explaining the design philosophy and visual choices.
Documentation reviewed: 2026-10-19. Installation and the complete workflow have not been tested end to end by AimatraLab.
Prepare your project
Open your own project in Codex or Claude Code, with permission to read and write files and run commands. An ordinary web chat may not be able to install a Skill.
- Codex or Claude Code with permission to read and write project files and run local commands. A chat page without file tools cannot install this skill.
- A local toolchain that can render and inspect PNG or PDF files. The upstream skill does not pin rendering-library versions; check available tools and explain any extra dependencies first.
- The complete canvas-fonts folder and its bundled font-license files. Check the selected font's own license and language coverage before use.
These requests run in your assistant's host environment. This page provides guidance; it does not run AI tasks or collect your project files.
Ask to install
Copy this request into your project conversation. Ask the assistant to review the original Skill and explain any required setup before using it.
Installation request
I am using Codex or Claude Code with filesystem and shell tools. Install Canvas Design from https://github.com/anthropics/skills at commit dbd4588f9e1033efb41dad4bef2f7947c8993d44, folder skills/canvas-design. Read SKILL.md and retrieve the complete skill and its support files, including any references, scripts, assets, and the entire canvas-fonts folder. Preserve LICENSE.txt, Anthropic, PBC. attribution, any notices, and each bundled font license; font licenses are separate from the skill's Apache-2.0 license. Check the exact font license before using a font and choose a clearly licensed alternative if coverage is missing. Use the current project's skill directory supported by this host, following existing project configuration. Do not overwrite an existing skill; explain any conflict first. Check available PNG/PDF rendering and inspection tools and explain proposed dependencies before changing the environment. Tell me where the skill was installed and how to invoke it, then wait for my content and design brief.
You can also select the request text above and copy it manually.
Try your first task
Once installation is confirmed, replace the example paths and details with your own files, then send this request in the same project.
First-use request
Use the installed canvas-design skill to create an A4 academic lecture poster. Ask me for the confirmed title, speaker name, date, time, venue, audience, and any approved logo before designing; leave missing facts clearly marked instead of inventing them. Propose a short visual direction, then create a readable static poster with enough margins and fonts that cover the requested language. Check each selected font's license and retain the associated notices. Preserve my original text, images, and logos. Save PNG and PDF outputs plus a Markdown design-philosophy file to a new output folder, then inspect the rendered files for missing glyphs, text overlap, or clipping.
You can also select the request text above and copy it manually.
Review the result
- A static poster or visual design as PNG and/or PDF, checked for readable text, margins, clipping, and overlap.
- A Markdown (.md) file explaining the design philosophy and visual choices.
Ask your assistant where each output was saved and how it was checked. Compare the result with your original inputs before you use or share it.
Questions & limits
- Source and documentation checked on 2026-10-19; complete runtime workflows have not been tested here.
- PNG and PDF are static deliverables; this skill does not guarantee editable layers, a Figma file, or a PowerPoint source.
- The skill's Apache-2.0 license does not replace the licenses of fonts or supplied media. Verify the exact font license and keep its notices; check the text and print settings before use.
- No semantic version is declared in the upstream skill metadata; this listing identifies the reviewed commit.
Can I upload files and run this here?
This guide does not provide online execution or file uploads. Work with the files in your own Codex or Claude Code project.
What if my assistant cannot install it?
Confirm that you are in a project conversation with file and command access. Ask the assistant to show the failed step and missing dependency, then use the pinned source below to check the instructions.
Which terms apply to this Skill and its dependencies?
See Apache-2.0 in the source section below. Dependencies and fonts have their own licences; services and data may have separate terms, access requirements or costs.
